ALBERTA BEATS ATLANTIC 4-2 FOR FIFTH
SURREY, B.C. – Brittany Styner (Calgary, Alta.) had a goal and an assist to help Alberta defeat Team
Atlantic 4-2 on the ice Saturday at South Surrey Arena but she was the only player to have more than one
point in a well-matched, well-played game.
Alberta was the team to walk away with the win, however, with team effort proving to be a major factor in
the victory. Rachel Walsh (Calgary, Alta.) opened up the scoring less than five minutes into the first on a
pass from Styner, which ended up being the only goal of the period.
Team Atlantic took the lead in the second, with Candace Boudreau (Arichat, N.S.) scoring on a Sarah Davis
(Paradise, N.L.) pass and Leanne Gallant (Newbridge, N.B.) making it 2-1 on a power-play opportunity, with
the assist going to Shannon MacAulay (Mt. Herbert, P.E.I.).
The East Coast players kept up the pace into the third but the Albertans played even stronger, with
Styner, Sadie Lenstra (Calgary, Alta.) and Taylor Sakundiak (Calgary, Alta.) all finding the back of the
net.
Styner was named player of the game for the Albertans, who landed in fifth place overall, while Davis
walked away with the same honour for Team Atlantic, which improved its eighth place standing from last year
to finish in sixth this year. |
