CANADA WINS SILVER AT 2009 HOCKEY CANADA CUP 
IN VANCOUVER, B.C.

VANCOUVER, B.C. – Canada’s National Women’s Team has won silver at the 2009 Hockey Canada Cup, after a 2-1 loss to the United States on Sunday at GM Place.

The teams exchanged goals in the first period, with Monique Lamoureux scoring at 8:27 and Meghan Agosta tying the game for Canada with 25 seconds left. The United States got the eventual game-winner at 1:18 of the third period when Natalie Darwitz scored on the power play.

The gold medal final was played in front of a crowd of more than 8,000 at GM Place, which will be home to the conclusion of the women’s hockey tournament at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

Earlier in the day, Finland defeated Sweden 1-0 for bronze.

Canada’s players and staff will return to Calgary, Alta., on Monday on AC208. The National Women’s Team will be off the entire week of September 7th and will return to regular training in Calgary on September 14th.
